We took a 2-day mid-week trip to Mackinac Island in Michigan in August – we played mini golf, ate outside at cafes for all our meals, went for bike rides (we brought our bikes) around the island, shopped, visited historical sites, swam in the resort pool.
We also are planning a 2-night indoor waterpark in Frankenmuth, MI at the Bavarian Inn (which has 3 indoor pools) or Splash Village (which has a waterpark.) Frankenmuth is one of our favorite towns, with fun activities, good food and beer and lots of shopping. We like to go in the summer and fall best, but don’t overlook a midwinter stay (just avoid the Christmas season at Bronner’s if you value your sanity or dislike crowds. Bronner’s is awesome and quieter in the winter and summer.)
We also have a winter wonderland park in Muskegon with a luge track, an ice skating ribbon through the woods and cross country skiing, and that’s on our 2022 gift list (we’ll likely have to take a day off to do this.)
Downtown Detroit has the Detroit Institute of Arts, and we gifted ourselves a day at the DIA for the world’s largest Van Gogh exhibit last year.
If your city has a public waterpark, and you can gift a summer pass, this makes a GREAT gift, I package them with swim googles or flip flop sandals in a size up for summer for kids.)
